Texas Oncology Expands as Austin Area Grows

February 06, 2019

Georgetown is known for small-town charm, but it’s also experienced booming growth, making it one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. list in recent years. With the population jumping from 47,400 in 2010 to more than 70,000 today, the need for more healthcare services, including cancer care, is evident. That’s why Texas Oncology has expanded to Georgetown, opening a new location at 1500 Rivery Boulevard.

“Texas Oncology’s focus is on delivering high quality care, including innovative medical and surgical treatments, in convenient locations that help make getting cancer treatment less disruptive to our patients’ lives,” said Dr. Cortney Yau, medical oncologist, Texas Oncology-Georgetown. “We are so pleased to open the doors of our beautiful new Georgetown clinic.”

In addition to Dr. Yau, medical oncologist Dr. Krishna Patel serves the Georgetown location, as does Texas Breast Specialists physician Dr. Bridget O’Brien. Dr. O’Brien is a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist, the first and only specialized breast surgeon in the Williamson County area with this expert training.

“We are proud to establish a home in the Georgetown and Cedar Park areas to provide a higher level of breast cancer surgical care in a multidisciplinary team approach,” said Dr. O’Brien.

Austin suburb Cedar Park also is burgeoning, with a current population approaching 78,000, up from 58,000 in 2012. To address the growing community’s need for more cancer treatment services, Texas Oncology opened a Cedar Park location last June at 1401 Medical Parkway (building C, suite 200).

“We needed the capacity to accommodate the growth in the number of patients that we have been seeing,” said Dr. Lakshmi Balasubramanian, medical oncologist/hematologist, Texas Oncology-Cedar Park. “The new location has the space and the resources we need to provide quality care to our patients who live in the Cedar Park area.”

In addition to Dr. Balasubramanian, physicians at the Cedar Park location are: Dr. Thomas Aung, medical oncologist; Dr. Andrew Shaw, medical oncologist/hematologist; and breast surgeon Dr. O’Brien.

Texas Oncology-Cedar Park provides chemotherapy and breast surgical care, as well as supporting services such as diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, and a medically integrated pharmacy.

The new sites feature patient-friendly amenities such as heated infusion chairs and televisions with individual audio control. Both sites are conveniently located near popular shopping, restaurants, parks, and residential areas.
