Will You Still Be Able to See Your Doctor Virtually?

As part of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s state of emergency declaration at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, state-regulated insurance plans were required to pay the same amount for telemedicine visits as in-person visits. This order for insurance coverage parity has been extended to September 12. Debra Patt, M.D., MPH, MBA, medical oncologist and executive vice president at Texas Oncology, discusses the various ways the practice is using telehealth, including initial visits, reviewing patient scans, and to provide counseling for patients with their loved ones present. Dr. Patt believes the need for telehealth will continue and that there's a desire to make policies less restrictive as doctors’ offices have reduced in-clinic capacity to limit the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
