DALLAS, Texas — The physicians of Texas Oncology recognize a super hero when they see one, and they realize the difference they make. Today, those physicians announced a $60,650 contribution to the Texas Oncology Foundation in honor of Texas Oncology nurses and healthcare teams.
Nurses are the unsung super heroes on the front lines in the fight against cancer and other serious diseases. Nurses and healthcare teams may care for a patient for a short time, but the impact can last a lifetime.

Texas Oncology physicians announced the donation as part of an annual Thanksgiving initiative highlighting the practice’s long-standing community involvement. Because physicians and centers are dispersed throughout the state, patients are able to stay close to the critical support of family and friends throughout treatment.
“Recent events have once again highlighted how indispensable nurses are to the healthcare team,” said Dr. Steve Paulson, Texas Oncology chairman and president. “They must be knowledgeable of many complex diagnoses and therapies and provide insightful, empathetic patient support. Nurses are nothing short of super heroes, with skills that expertly blend and balance emotion and expertise with compassion to treat anyone in need.”
Texas Oncology practices throughout Texas and southeastern Oklahoma are celebrating the impact of nurses this Thanksgiving. Throughout November, patients, families, and friends are encouraged to join in saying thank you to the nurses and healthcare teams that fight so hard for their patients so they can focus on fighting cancer. This gift made by local physicians recognizing our super heroes who give so generously of themselves, will further the work of the foundation, which supports patients and families within their local communities.”
The Texas Oncology Foundation, established in 1997, is dedicated to providing support to cancer patients in the communities where they live, work, and receive treatment through support and survivorship groups, patient and caregiver education, and cancer research.
“This year, more than 119,000 Texans will be diagnosed with cancer. While their treatment plans will be as diverse as our state, all will have nurse super heroes watching out for them,” said Paulson. “I hope others will join us in saying #SuperThanks.”
