Publication: Irving Chamber of Commerce, Irving

Irving-based Texas Center for Proton Therapy, one of the most technologically advanced cancer treatment facilities in the world, hosted more than 160 physicians, physicists and experts from 20 countries and four continents.

Texas Center for Proton Therapy was selected to host the annual IBA Proteus Users Meeting. As hosts of this meeting, the Center, technology and staff are considered one of the world’s leading proton centers. Belgium-based IBA is a global leader in proton therapy technology, which delivers targeted radiation to tumors, while minimizing damage to the surrounding healthy tissue.

More than 160 international leaders and users of proton therapy are gathering to tour the facility and see firsthand the extraordinary work the center’s team is executing on a daily basis to fight cancer. Attendees learned about unique cases in proton therapy, explored equipment updates and service enhancements and reviewed current and future potential technology developments.

The annual meeting aims to advance and provide the best of proton therapy, among a growing community of cancer-fighting pioneers.

Since opening in Nov. 2015, Texas Center for Proton Therapy has treated more than 455 patients with a variety of cancers including brain, head and neck, lung, breast, lymphoma, gastrointestinal and prostate. The extraordinary precision of proton therapy can mean patients experience fewer side effects. The Center is one of only 25 in the U.S. and the most advanced proton therapy center in the state.
