Cancer Doesn’t Care Where You Live

Publication: AARP

Cancer doesn’t care if you live downtown or on a rural ranch. That’s why high-quality, community-based care is so important in Texas. A cancer diagnosis shouldn’t require trips to distant treatment facilities. A group of physicians founded Texas Oncology thirty years ago with this in mind.

Patients don’t have to choose between high-quality care and proximity to their hometown. Of course, Texas Oncology is in major cities like Dallas, Austin, and Houston, but the practice also includes treatment centers in Amarillo, Beaumont, Cleburne and smaller communities statewide — more than 175 locations.

Community-Based Care

Our network encompasses the driving passion of more than 420 physicians collectively focused on treating cancer and blood disorders. Community-based care can help mitigate the inherent disruption that comes with cancer treatment. Our patients find comfort in familiar surroundings and routine. Plus, without the stress of travel, patient outcomes can improve.

Comprehensive care from Texas Oncology includes leading-edge treatments, research options, compassionate care teams, and a community of support. Most treatment is administered on an outpatient basis, and a large percentage is provided in community-based treatment centers. Our commitment to evidenced-based care and value-based care models that focus on overall value and outcomes for patients is ongoing, extensive, and significantly improving how cancer care is managed.

We offer access to a full spectrum of advanced treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy, as well as genetic testing and evaluation. Our patients are connected to sub-specialty care such as blood and marrow transplants, Austin Brain Tumor Center, Texas Center for Proton Therapy, pediatric oncologists, and the Myelodysplastic Syndrome Center of Excellence.

Cancer Research

At any given time, Texas Oncology has more than 150 national clinical trials available. We’ve played a role in about one-third of all FDA-approved cancer therapies.

Annually, 50,000 new patients fight cancer with Texas Oncology in their own communities. Our guiding mission is that our patients deserve access to the best care and support available. Our experience indicates that patients do better when they can sleep in their own beds, be treated in familiar surroundings, with friends and family nearby. Cancer care without compromise, close to needed support. That’s the difference that Texas Oncology offers.
