Before October 2015, patients seeking proton therapy in the Dallas/Fort Worth area had the options of hopping on a plane or driving for hours to one of the 15 centers in the U.S. The absence of this therapy made DFW and its 6.5 million residents the largest metropolitan area in the U.S. without a proton therapy center. However, access has now been granted with the opening of Texas Center for Proton Therapy in Irving, Texas.
