Special Delivery: 220-Ton Proton Accelerator for First of Its Type Cancer Center in DFW

Publication: Dallas Business Journal

A towering crane hoisted a 220-ton particle accelerator into the Texas Center for Proton Therapy in Irving on Wednesday — a milestone for what will be the first center of its type in Dallas-Fort Worth.

The $105 million Texas Center for Proton Therapy, a 63,000-square-foot building under construction at 1501 W. Royal Lane, is more than 85 percent complete and scheduled to open in late 2015 or early 2016. Some $51 million of the total project cost will be equipment, with the accelerator being the big daddy of the medical machinery.
