Survivors

A person is considered a cancer survivor from the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment, and for the duration of life. Family, friends, and caregivers also are impacted by the cancer survival experience and are included in the definition of cancer survivor. From the time of your cancer diagnosis forward, survivorship is focused on your health and life beyond treatment. Survivor planning seeks to address prevention and control of treatment-related outcomes, such as late effects of treatment, second cancers, and overall quality of life.

The focus of survivor education is to prepare you with plans and knowledge to optimize your health after cancer treatment. Surviving cancer is something to celebrate, but it is not the end of the road. Cancer changes your healthcare needs and your life forever.
