Dr Koon was born and raised in Texas. He earned his B.A. degree in 1988 from Baylor University in Waco, TX. He then completed both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in 1998 as an NIH-sponsored fellow at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX. Dr. Koon completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2003 ast the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. His fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology was completed in 2005 at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Faber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
