Carolyn Matthews, M.D. specializes in Gynecologic Oncology and has been board certified since 1995 in both Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Matthews has also completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine with Dr. Andrew Weil at the University of Arizona, and has attended over 1,000 hours of training in integrative and functional medicine. Her clinic interests include surgical and chemotherapeutic management of women with all gynecologic cancers as well as use of integrative approaches for prevention and management of cancer and chronic disease. Dr. Matthews has presented her research at both national and international meetings. She currently serves as chair of the Baylor Sammons QA Committee and as President Elect of the Baylor Medical Staff and was the program director for the Baylor University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1993 to 1999.
Education Details:
Dr. Matthews majored in English Literature at Williams College, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She then attended the Medical College of Virginia and was invited into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She stayed at the Medical College of Virginia for residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and served as Chief Resident in her final year. Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology was completed in 1991 at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas; while there she served as a Junior Faculty member.
