Dr. Heaven and his wife are active in our community, serving on multiple non-profit boards. In 2019 they were honored for HeArts for the ARTS by the Abilene Chamber of Commerce Cultural Affairs Committee.

Dr. Heaven served in the United States Army Medical Corp. as Lieutenant Colonel from 1983 to 1996. During his military career, he held appointments as Chief, Hematology/Oncology Service at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, and at Irwin Army Community Hospital, Fort Riley, Kansas, as Chief, Department of Medicine, Chief, Internal Medicine Service, and Chief, Respiratory Therapy Section. Dr. Heaven received Army Commendation Medals for Meritorious Service and Oak Leaf Cluster. He is currently the Cancer Committee Chairman at Abilene Regional Medical Center. He previously served as an Executive Committee Member and Chief of Staff at Hendrick Center for Extended Care in Abilene, Texas, as well as serving in numerous other appointments throughout his career.
