Carolyn Matthews, M.D. specializes in Gynecologic Oncology and has been board certified since 1995 in both Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Matthews is also board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Medical Acupuncture, and Integrative and Holistic Medicine, and serves as Director of Integrative Medicine for the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center. Her clinical interetsts include surgical and chemotherapeutic management of women with all gynecologic cancers, minimally invasive surgery, and use of integrative approaches for prevention of disease and optimization of health. She has presented her research at both national and international meetings. A past President of Baylor Medical Staff, she currently serves as chair of the Baylor Sammons QA Committee. Dr. Matthews is a Clinical Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Matthews majored in English Literature at Williams College, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She then attended the Medical College of Virginia and was invited into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She stayed at the Medical College of Virginia for residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and served as Chief Resident in her final year. Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology was completed in 1991 at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas; while there she served as a Junior Faculty member. Dr. Matthews completed a two year fellowship in Integrative Medicine with Dr. Andrew Weil at the University of Arizona in 2008, and in 2010, completed training in Medical Acupuncture with Dr. Joseph Helms.
