Stewart Lee Whitney, M.D., FACS, completed his general surgery residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, NY, where physician Burrill B. Crohn, M.D., first described Crohn’s disease. This experience, along with his fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, provided Dr. Whitney with extensive knowledge in the surgical management of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and drew him to the field of colon and rectal surgery.
