J. Michael Kerley, M.D., specializes in radiation oncology and is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and radiation oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Kerley’s strengths are in combined modality treatment of cancer and brachytherapy. He also helped to introduce conformal radiation therapy, including High Dose Rate Brachytherapy, 3D conformal radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, and image guidance into patient care at Texas Oncology and has published several related papers.

Dr. Kerley serves on the Texas Oncology Board of Directors, Operations Board, and Radiation Oncology Committees . He is the past chairman of the US Oncology Radiation Executive Committee. He also serves on the Medical Executive Committee of Paris Regional Hospital and as one of Texas Oncology’s regional medical directors.

Dr. Kerley was a National Merit Scholar and received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biochemistry and Religious Studies from Rice University in Houston, Texas in 1978 , and his medical degree in 1982 from Baylor College of Medicine also in Houston. He completed an internal medicine internship from 1982-1983, a residency in internal medicine from 1983-1985, and a fellowship in Medical Oncology from 1986-1987, at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals, and a residency in Radiation Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine from 1989-1992. Dr. Kerley served as the chief resident in both Internal Medicine and Radiation Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine during his training.

Dr. Kerley currently serves as a chancellor and the chairman of the Government Relations Committee for the American College of Radiation Oncology and has held teaching positions at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas at Tyler. He is a Fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology and has been recognized as a lifetime member of Who’s Who Global Directory and as one of America’s Top Physicians in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.

Dr. Kerley is a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, American Society of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology, American Brachytherapy Society, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and American College of Radiation Oncology.
